While you are looking over the menu, you suddenly
notice the stage area, bathed in a breathtaking combination of stage
lights. Soft music plays in the background, and as you listen, you realize
it is the same style of music to be presented at this evening's performance.
Your drinks arrive and you place your order for a chicken dish; one
of your friends orders the vegetarian dish. As you wait for your entrees,
you look down and notice that the entire room is covered in rich wood
paneled flooring. Your meals arrive, delivered by a server, also dressed
in formal wear. The meals are some of the best you and your party have
ever tasted. As your server takes away your empty dishes, a rich, engaging
voice tells you that tonight's performance is about to begin.
The music begins to play; not a piano, or recorded
music, but a live orchestra. Immediately, you realize this is not going
to be just any ordinary performance. The curtain opens and you see an
small orchestra with a grand piano. Tonight's performance includes big,
jazzy, Broadway songs featuring local and nationally known talent. Some
of your friends have attended shows at the club with many different
styles of music, as well as opportunities for the guests to get up and
dance. Suddenly, from several points around the room, you see young
ladies dancing toward the stage; the entire audience breaks into spontaneous
applause.
Throughout the entire performance, you and the
rest of the audience are dazzled by colorful lighting, beautiful music,
and spectacular dancing. The show includes a few sweeping ballads, requiring
the occasional tissue, as well as songs and routines that make you laugh
until your sides hurt.
The show comes to a close and all the performers
take a bow as the audience rises to its feet with applause and shouts
of appreciation. You and your party make your way to the front door
and, as you claim your coats, are surprised and pleased to hear the
host staff call you by name, thank you for coming, and wish you a pleasant
evening. You and your party step back into your car as you notice the
tiny white lights on the trees and bushes one last time. As you drive
away, one of the members of your party hands you a CD she purchased
in the Top Shop. You slip it into you car's CD player and enjoy the
music of the evening once more as you drive away into the night.
